MEDIA RELEASE:    I    22 September 2016

The latest world university rankings, released today, highlight Victoria University of Wellington's research excellence.

Of particular note in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE) is Victoria’s rise in its scores for research and for the citations of the research produced by its academic staff. These two categories account for 60% of the THE ranking result.

Victoria also recorded a considerable increase in the amount of industry income it is receiving, reflecting the University’s strengthening connections with partners and collaborators in New Zealand and internationally.

The THE Rankings place Victoria in the top two and a half percent of universities globally and 65th in the world for international outlook.

The fact that Victoria has maintained its high score for international outlook is evidence that it is a distinctive strength of the University says Vice-Chancellor Professor Grant Guilford.

“Victoria has always been proud of its global connections and ability to collaborate with scholars across the world.

“Our position as a world-leading capital city university and one of the great global-civic universities is underpinned by the outstanding reputation of our academics, the quality of our research and the connections, collaborations and truly global focus of our staff and students.”

The 2016-2017 THE World University Rankings assess universities on their teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.
