This an exciting time of year for Research For Life, filled with anticipation for the next chapter in Wellington-based medical research.

Research for Life will soon be publishing the first round of funding for 2016. These are highly anticipated grants made to Wellington-based medical researchers by Research For Life (Wellington Medical Research Foundation). Each grant can mean an immense amount to a researcher on a mission to find solutions to some hard problems.

I had further confirmation of the gratitude and good work being undertaken when I visited Dr Sarah Shultz last week at Massey University’s School of Sport and Exercise.

Sarah has been a grant recipient and her research interests involve complications associated with obesity in children during exercise. She is particularly interested in strategies to minimize injury and promote appropriate exercise for obese youth. Her good work and discoveries will inevitably filter through to the way children with obesity can be given improved ways to exercise and live more comfortably.

So in coming weeks, look out for Sarah’s profile and, of course, we’ll all await the publication of the next round of grant recipients.

It’s that time of year when grants are announced and the world looks a little brighter
